Roosevelt, Churchill, and their military chiefs of staff met in Casablanca to plan Allied strategy. The American commanders proposed a crossing of the English Channel, but Churchill pressed for a more limited operation against Sicily and eventually got his way. The discussants also agreed to continue preparing for an invasion of France and decided to open an overland route to China. Roosevelt surprised the participants by demanding GermanyΓÇÖs unconditional surrender.
